I’ve just recently purchased the Canon Powershot A1100 and frankly am still a little bit excited about it all. I did my due dilligence prior to purchasing the A1100 and as far as I am concerned you can never have too may user reviews – so here’s my two cent’s worth …

I recently went on holidays and bought the Canon A1100 Powershot just prior to departure. I still had my old camera with me and actually wasn’t intending on using the A1100 until I’d got back and thoroughly studied the manual, but as it turned out I actually dropped the old camera and it became unusable – which meant that I ended up using the new Canon anyway. The interesting upshot of all this is that I have a ready comparison between the picture quality of the A1100 Powershot and that of the old camera.

But first let me tell you about my experiences with the camera itself:

In comparing the two cameras for ease of use, I’d have to say that  the Canon A1100 Powershot outshines my old camera here.  Mind you, I have used several different types of digital cameras over the years so I am familiar with their basic operation.  Someone less experienced might have a little trouble dealing with the buttons on the back.  Each button has two labels, one for shooting functions and one for viewing functions, and the manual doesn’t do a great job of explaining how to use them.

  • Pre-Configured Shutter Settings - The Canon A1100 Powershot gets a real boost up in my estimation due to its pre-configured shutter settings.   If you know anything about cameras and photography then you can easily adjust shutter speeds and lighting to any customized setting you want.  But if you just want to take pictures for the fun of it, then you can use the Auto setting and the Canon takes over and makes all those decisions for your.  For each picture you take, the camera automatically adjusts itself according to the available light and you get a perfect picture every time. I like this feature because sometimes I like to get all arty and manually adjust my settings and kid myself I’m working for National Geographic; but then on other occassions I really do just want to point and shoot. With the A1100 I can do both.
  • Picture Quality – I’m also very impressed with the picture quality delivered by the Canon A1100 Powershot.  In comparing the pictures from both of my cameras, side by side, the Canon photos show up as much sharper and clearer, the colors are more vibrant and realistic, and there’s hardly any blur in those pictures that had movement in the background.  I’ve also enlarged a couple of my photos to 8 X 10 size and they’re almost as sharp as the originals.
  • Compact Size – I do prefer the size of the Canon because it fits in your pocket.  Had my other camera been this small I might not have dropped it because it would have been safely tucked away in my jacket.  But we all have 20-20 hindsight.  The Powershot is very light  and easy to hold while accessing the buttons and lining up your shots.

One of the pleasant discoveries that I made using the Canon A1100 Powershot is that it runs on regular AA batteries. I actually didn’t discover this until the batteries died.  Fortunately, I always carry a spare set of AA batteries with me when I’m travelling. I count this as a plus because as long as you carry extra batteries, either alkaline or the rechargeable NiMH batteries, you’ll never be without your camera.

All up I’d say the Canon A1100 Powershot gets a favorable review and two thumbs up from this photographer.  With a price tag of around $150 I think it’s great value for money. Just remember to always carry extra batteries and keep your camera zipped securely in a jacket pocket so that you don’t drop it!

Canon Powershot A1100 Reviews – Do They Tell The Whole Story??

I’d read a good number of Canon Powershot A1100 reviews before I purchased my particular camera but it can be difficult in these circumstances sorting out those reviewers who have actually used the camera from those who are just putting out some marketing spin.  And apart from that, I’m from New York. I’m not going to simply believe that a product is great because you tell me it is: I have to see it for myself.  Now, since the good folk at Canon were gracious enough to let me purchase one of their cameras, I decided I’d put it through its paces and see how it really compared to those “customer reviews”.

The three attributes that were mentioned time and time again in the Canon Powershot A1100 Reviews that I read were: good battery life; the excellent image quality and its ease of use – so I specifically want address my thoughts on the Canon A1100 Powersot to each of those attributes cited in the reviews:

Good Battery Life – I’d agree with that.  The Canon Powershot A1100 reviews that I read all uniformly agreed that this camera has a good battery life.  That’s because it uses actual batteries.  You don’t have to plug the whole camera in somewhere to recharge it.  So if the batteries die when you’re in the middle of a wedding reception, you can just replace them and keep on taking shots.

Excellent Image Quality – Again, the Canon Powershot A1100 reviews all seemed to agree that this camera takes shots of excellent quality and it does.  I breed tropical fish for a hobby and I’m always trying to get good pictures of my aquariums, which if you know anything about the subject, is not an easy thing to do.  This camera has an optional setting specifically for aquariums that eliminates the glare you get from the glass.  There are 10 settings on this camera to make it easy for you to get the perfect picture every time regardless of what you’re shooting.

Easy To Use – This is one of the benefits sited in the Canon Powershot A1100 reviews that I w0uldn’t necessarily agree with 100%.  I initially had a difficult time figuring out what all the buttons were for and I thought the manual that came with the camera could’ve gone into more detail.  I had to search for answers on line a number of times to find out what all the buttons were for. All-in-all, once these things are learnt however, they’re learnt – and after that I would agree that the Canon Powershot A1100 is easy to use.

By and large, I’d say that the Canon Powershot A1100 customer reviews were I read were accurate in the main.  Once you figure out the buttons, it is easy to use and it does take photographs of excellent quality.  It’s certainly good enough for me.

I actually ended up buying my Canon Powershot A1100 through Amazon and in so doing discovered a number of other Canon Powershot A1100 Reviews on their site.

The Canon Powershot A1100 Digital Camera – You Get A Lot More Than What You Pay For

OK -If you’re in the market for a basic, low cost, point-and-shoot camera then you should probably steer clear of the Canon Powershot A1100 -  because it’s anything but basic.  This camera is packed to the gills with special features and it’s low price point can be a bit misleading.  The fact is, that when you buy a Canon Powershot A1100 digital camera, you’re getting a lot more than what you paid for.

But if you’re new to the camera buying game, don’t let the fact that the Canon Powershot A1100 digital camera is feature rich put you off from investigating it further, because it really is hard to think of a better camera for someone just starting out in digital photography.  It is actually this compact camera’s features which make it so easy to use.  The three features that I like the most are:

The Auto Mode Setting – this setting takes all the guess work out of digital photography.  If you’ve never used a digital camera before you may be concerned about having to adjust the different settings.  Don’t worry – the Auto setting on the Canon Powershot A1100 digital camera takes over and makes all those decisions regarding lighting and lens speed for you.  And you get a perfect picture every time.

The Software – The software that comes with your Canon Powershot A1100 digital camera is easy to install and simple to use.  You can download from the camera or the card directly to your computer and set up any type of filing system you like.  The software even recognizes the difference between new pictures and pictures that you’ve already downloaded and doesn’t transfer them a second time, saving you clogging up your hard drive with tons of duplicate pictures.

The Batteries – I especially like the fact that I can use rechargeable batteries in my Canon Powershot A1100 digital camera.  I always have my eye out for ways in which I can do my bit to protect the environment and using NiCad batteries certainly helps.  But I really like the fact that my camera never runs out of battery life like so many other cameras that I’ve had before.  When the batteries run out, I just pop them out, replace them, and keep on shooting.
